The snow covered the sweet gum tree branches the day the snow fell. The next day, as the snow melted, bits of it hung at intervals on the branches. "How odd," I thought. "It looks like little white Christmas balls hanging there. How odd that it should form little balls as it melts." Then I went on about my daily tasks and thought little more about it.
The next morning I arose and looked out the window to find that all the snow had melted from the trees. Then I got my answer. The melted snow revealed dozens of dead sweet gum balls hanging from the tree branches! Not such a mystery after all.
Perhaps many of the incidences we encounter in our daily lives would have a rather normal explanation if we just understood more of their nature. Doctors are able to heal many diseases because they have learned about the human body and what procedures to take to correct infirmities. They have learned what medicines may combat certain infections. Still, much depends upon the innate ability of the human body to heal itself. That we may perceive as a miracle because we don't understand how it happens.
What may be perceived as a strange occurrence or even perchance as a miracle may hold an underlying truth. It may be that there are no miracles without a foundation. The miracles performed by Christ were possible because He, as Creator, knew the composition of each person or thing, because He knew it from its beginning and He had the power to return the human body to its natural state. He could command the waters because He made them. He is in control of all things, large and small.
And He knows that sometimes a little thing like a sweet gum ball covered with snow can delight a soul.
